Jelly Roll teased an unreleased anthem when he took the historic Grand Ole Opry stage on Tuesday evening (April 16) in Nashville, Tennessee.
The Grand Ole Opry shared a few videos on an Instagram story following the performance, including one that showed the reigning iHeartRadio Music Awards Best New Artist — in both Pop and Country categories — performing the unreleased song on stage. it was not imediately clear what the song’s title is, or whether Jelly Roll has plans to release it any time soon. The Opry’s caption over the video reads, “Don’t be shy, [Jelly Roll]. Drop the new song.” The next slide captures Machine Gun Kelly standing in the crowd and nodding along to the song as Jelly Roll performed “Need A Favor,” marking a “friends supporting friends” moment in the audience.
Jelly Roll was part of an all-star lineup that also included Kelsea Ballerini — who marked her five-year anniversary of becoming an Opry member — Tyler Halverson, Maggie Rose and Terri Clark.
Jelly Roll’s latest full-length project is Whitsitt Chapel, a 13-track album titled after the church he attended in his hometown, the Antioch neighborhood of Nashville, Tennessee. The collection includes some of the award-winning artist’s biggest hits, including “Halfway To Hell,” “Need A Favor” and “Save Me” with Lainey Wilson, in addition to collaborations Yelawolf and Brantley Gilbert and Struggle Jennings, among other highlights. Whitsitt Chapel is “about growth and gratitude happening in my life,” he previously said of the album. “I wanted to create a project that felt hopeful. I believe the worst feeling a person can have is feeling hopeless or worthless. This is therapeutic music. Real music for real people with real problems.”
